Vasu Baras (also known as Govatsa Dwadashi) marks the beginning of the Diwali festival in Maharashtra. It is celebrated on the Dwadashi (12th day) of the Krishna Paksha in the Ashwin month and is dedicated to the worship of the cow (gau mata) and calf (vatsa), symbolizing prosperity, motherhood, and nourishment.
